Rules and the minimum requirement effect

Sometimes we create rules for administrative purposes. For example, a company may have a rule that if you work after 10:00 pm, you may take taxi home and claim for the taxi fares. Let say I finished my work by 9:45 pm. I may decide to stay on for another 15 minutes so that I can go home by taxi.

When I was in school, the school has a rule that boy's hair cannot touch the ear. Long hair for boys were fashionable then. So many boys keep their hair till it almost touch the ear.

Some girl schools specify that the length of the skirt must touch the knee or longer. Girls who like to wear short skirts then wear skirt that touch the knee.

The Bible says that we should give a tithe of our income. Many Christians give a tithe of their net income in order to meet the minimum requirement.

When a rule is specific, people who are compelled to follow the rule will do their best to misinterprete it, or do the minimum.

The Law cannot save. It kills.
