Be subject to governing authorities
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. (Romans 13:1 ESV)
Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. (Titus 3:1-2 NASB)
Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. (1 Peter 2:13-14 NASB)
Behind all governing authorities is Jesus Himself
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16 ESV)
Law is good, when used lawfully, in accordance to the Gospel
But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the
fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are
lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and
profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and
immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and
whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious
gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. (1 Timothy
1:8-11 NASB)
We obey the all authorities as far as possible
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. (Romans 12:18 NASB)
But we must obey God rather than men
But Peter and the apostles answered, We must obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29 ESV)
