Rev Koo's Sermon at KL JSM on 2018-01-21

智慧的人生
Text: Psalm 90:1-12

Wisdom is
  1. Knowing God is eternal;
  2. Knowing life is short.
Lord, you've been our refuge from generation to generation. (Psalm 90:1 ISV)
Before the mountains were formed or the earth and the world were brought forth, you are God from eternity to eternity. (Psalm 90:2 ISV)
God, described as from eternity to eternity (Psalm 90:2)
Man, described as from generation to generation (Psalm 90:1)

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (Psalm 90:10 KJV)
The Chinese is also aware of the lifespan: 人生七十古來稀
子曰:「吾十有五而志於學,三十而立,四十而不惑,五十而知天命,六十而耳順,七十而從心所欲、不逾矩。」

Addition and subtraction
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12 KJV)
We add to our birthdays, we subtract from our life span.

Multiplication
Die and multiply
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24 KJV)

Division
Moses life can be divided into 3 segments of 40 years.
"Youth is a mistake, manhood a struggle, old age a regret." - Lord Byron
Rev Koo's life division (until now)
  1. Studied in SOM by 20, not a mistake;
  2. By God's grace raised a family of 4 children on a pastor's meagre pay, not a struggle;
  3. Looking back at 60, no regret.
