What is the difference between the soul and spirit of man?
A video "Gods411 - Have You Experienced Your Sinful Nature Fight With Your Spirit?" in Facebook attempt to answer this question and I extract some of the answers here. The video went on to list some properties about soul and spirit with Bible references. Although I broadly agree with the properties, I feel that the references given is not really convincing.
Soul is the essence of man. It is who we are.
Spirit is the immaterial part of man that connects to God.
Spirit refers only to the immaterial part of man. Man has spirit but are not spirit.
Believers are spiritually alive (1 Corinthians 2:11, Hebrews 4:12, James 2:26)
Unbelievers are spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1-5, Colossians 2:13)
Spirit is pivotal to the life of the believer (1 Corinthians 2:14, 1 Corinthians 3:1, Ephesians 1:3, Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 1:9, Colossians 3:16)
Spirit refers to the immaterial part of man that connects with God who is spirit (John 4:24)
Soul can refer to both material and immaterial aspect of man.
Humans are souls. Essentially soul means life. Soul refer to whole person, whether alive or after death.
Soul has an eagerness to sin (Luke 12:26)
Soul, life essence, is removed at physical death (Genesis 35:18, Jeremiah 15:2)
Soul, as with spirit, is the center of many spiritual and emotional experiences (Job 30:25, Psalm 43:5, Jeremiah 13:17)
Soul and spirit are connected but separable (Hebrews 4:12)
