Why do we read God's word?
To know His will.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105 KJV)
Why do we want to know His will?
To do His will.
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (Matthew 7:24 ESV)
Why do we want to do His will?
To know if His promises are true.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. (1 John 5:14 ESV)
Why do we want to know if His promises are true?
To know God.
The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father. I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him." (John 14:21 HCSB)
Why do we want to know God?
To know God is eternal life.
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (John 17:3 ESV)
