If you are not a Christian, you should read the Gospel of John. The Apostle John wrote that the purpose of the book is to convince you that you need Jesus the Messiah as your Saviour in order to have eternal life. "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31 KJV)"
If you are already a Christian, you may want to read the First Epistle of John to see if you are truly saved and have eternal life. "I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13 HCSB)"
