Dr Michael P V Barrett in his book, "God's Unfailing Purpose", described three characteristics of prophetic language:
Prophecy tends to use symbolic languages;
Prophecy tends to use language of imminency;
Prophecy tends to link distinct epochal events into single predictive contexts.
