And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. (Genesis 1:31-2:3 ESV)
But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working." (John 5:17 ESV)
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:17 ESV)
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. (Hebrews 1:3a HCSB)
But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:7 ESV)
The whole creation seems to work like a clock. Everything works without the need of intervention. So wonderfully automated is this world the many ruled out the need for God. But the Bible tells us that all things are held together by the Word of God.
We can have a analogy (though I would consider it a poor analogy) of a computer system. Once the development of the computer system by the word of men is done and implemented, it still needs the IT Operations to run and maintain it and to hold it together.
We have no idea how the Word of God sustains all things. One day, it may be revealed to us. But until then, we just have to know that although no intervention seems to be needed in nature, God is actually sustaining the whole world by the power of His Word.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29 ESV)
