After he had said this, he was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9 CSB)
Today is Ascension Day, a public holiday in Indonesia.
After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3 NIV)
Christianity is not like other religions, following the teachings of one man. All the teachings of Christianity were already taught by Moses and the prophets in the Old Testament. The main message of Christianity is an event, a fulfilment of the prophecies in the Old Testament, the coming of the Messiah to suffer and die. After three days He was resurrected. He then spent forty days with His disciples to prove to them and to convince them that He was resurrected.
Christianity is based on a historical event, related by eye-witnesses.
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." (Acts 1:10-11 NIV)
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2 Peter 1:16 NIV)
