We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19 ESV)
Nobody can experience true love with knowing God's love. Without understanding God's sacrificial love for us, our own unworthiness to receive this love, it would not be possible for us to truly love others. Usually our love for others is love for self masquerading as love.
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8 ESV)
