The whole Bible can be summarized with four words - creation, fall, redemption, restoration.
The Bible described creation in two chapters (
Genesis 1:1 - 2:25).
The Bible described the fall in one chapter (
Genesis 3:1 - 3:24).
The Bible described the restoration in one and a half chapters (
Revelation 21:1-22:5).
The bulk of the Bible is about redemption.
What can we learn about God's original creation?
- The world was perfectly good;
- There was no death;
- Feeding did not involve the death of plants or animals;
- There was only one commandment to obey.
Today we see death, decay and destruction everywhere. But it was not so at the beginning of creation. There was no evil, only good. Eating did not involve the killing of plants or animals. Today, if you eat rice, the rice plant is killed after harvest. If a vegetarian tell me that he is a vegetarian for health reasons, on doctor's order or for environmental reasons, I have nothing to say. But if he tells me that he is a vegetarian because he does not want to take life, then I have to say that even eating plants may kill plants. Medicine kills bacteria, which is life. If you refuse to take medicine to prevent killing bacteria, you may be killed by the bacteria and you are killing yourself. There is no way a person can stop himself from taking life. You can only be perfectly good in a perfect world like the garden of Eden.
The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die." (Genesis 2:15-17 CSB)
