Good works cannot save us from lies. Neither can good works cancel our sins.
Christians should do good works out of gratitude to our God who has so freely given everything to us (1 John 4:19, Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:12-13, Matthew 10:8). Our motivation is gratitude, not servitude.
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. (1 Corinthians 3:11-13 NIV)
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10 NIV)
