The Bible described creation in two chapters (Genesis 1:1 - 2:25).
The Bible described the fall in one chapter (Genesis 3:1 - 3:24).
The Bible described the restoration in one and a half chapters (Revelation 21:1-22:5).
The bulk of the Bible is about redemption.
How does this overview of the Bible help us understand the present world we are in?
- We can conclude that we are living in the redemptive stage of the Bible;
- We know why time is linear because it is moving in one direction toward restoration;
- We know the origin of evil;
- We know God's redemptive plan;
- We understand God's apparent inaction against evil now because He has already planned its elimination;
- We know how it will all end.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1 NASB, NLT, NIV)
Fall
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12 HCSB)
Redemption
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6 ESV)
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV)
Restoration
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. (Revelation 21:1 ESV)
